After giving birth, a mother will feel exhausted and worn out. Ayurveda postpartum care recommends that after childbirth, a new mother needs to rest for at least six weeks. Without recovering and prolonged depression, a mother may experience stress, fatigue, hemorrhoids, digestive problems and irritability which can lead to other issues.

Extra care and support is needed during this period. As mothers feel exhausted, especially when transitioning into motherhood, with all those responsibilities, support and care are very important. If these needs are neglected, it may lead to problems later on. The mother also has to be in a peaceful environment. The room should be kept clean and quiet at all times. A daily warm massage keeps a new mother feeling relaxed and fresh.

The diet of a new mother needs to be monitored. It is important that she be provided with fresh food at all times as it is crucial for both the baby and the mother. Fresh foods have the most nutrition and can be digested quickly offering the required nourishment for recovery. It also makes sure that an infant rests well. A mother should not ingest leftovers during this time. Your helper should make sure that the food she provides for you is fresh as you will not be capable of cooking for yourself.

Belly wrapping is a traditional technique which helps the body of a mother to fill in all the empty spaces and to restore the muscles and organs to their appropriate places. Immediately after labor, wrapping the stomach helps to remove any leftover chord parts. It also helps to bring back the shape of the belly without having to worry about sagging and floppy skin. A long piece of cloth that is comfortable must be used.

Massaging the baby is also important. The baby ought to be massaged using warm herbal oil which prevents colic and helps in peaceful resting. The birthing process is stressful and adjusting to a new environment is not easy at first. Massage for twenty minutes helps in strengthening the bond the parents and will prevent the baby from being fussy and gassy.

Resting is very important during this time. When a baby sleeps, you should also take that opportunity and sleep. This is because resting will make your mood better and can improve your immune system and metabolism. In addition, when you feel depressed, consider seeking the assistance of a professional so that you become better without doing harm to yourself or the child.

It is important that you include herbs in your daily diet. They help in supporting your diet not forgetting recovery. Before taking the herbs, you should talk to your doctor first to ensure that it is safe. Fenugreek seeds, fennel, cumin, will greatly help in digestion and support lactation. They should be boiled in water before taken.

Stay indoors as much as possible and avoid visitors. For the first three weeks, you should only let the baby be cared for with the parents and the helper. This is because both the mother and baby are sensitive and you should be sure that those in contact with you two have good intentions. In addition, many people and their energy can be quite overwhelming for the both of you.
