Discovering Perineural Injection Therapy For Joint Pain

Back pain can often be some of the most debilitating pain in the world. Before strict regulations were placed on opioids and other narcotics, primary care providers would often prescribe medication to ease pain. As a response to these regulations, most primary care providers placed clients on pain management while others began providing different forms of pain relieving injections. Perineural Injection Therapy is one of the newest forms of these injection based treatments.

The therapy has been proven safe and effective treatment for individuals whom are not candidates for prescription medication, joint replacement surgeries or biological options such as stem cell injections. PIT is primarily a treatment for injured and inflamed nerves. In most cases, this pain is associated with injuries which occur during surgery, arthritis, occupational hazards, sports, trauma and overuse of muscles and joints.

All sensations in the body are recognized by the brain. At which time, the brain transmits a signal to the body's nervous system. As such, major and minor pain have been responsive to PIT. For, when pain stimulates a nerve cell in the body, the nerve often creates a short circuit which travels first to the cord of the spine, then the brain.

When a nerve is active, the nerve cell can move between different locations. As a result, the nerve is stimulated by an electrical current. When the stimulation process is finished, the door shuts. In the case of an inflamed or injured nerve, the process is disrupted, thus causing pain and discomfort in joints and muscles.

Nerves and joints host a substance, nerve growth factors which are responsible for generating pain. For, if a nerve is injured, the nerve still sends a signal to the brain even if there is no pain present at the time. After which, the nerve creates a sensation often known as a short circuit to the nerve and joint, much like that of an open electrical wire when submerged in water.

The nerve growth factors which cause pain also have the ability to prevent healing of other tissue, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Most often referred to as neurogenic inflammation, the conditions can often effect far more than the central nervous system. For, while pain causes the inflammation in the nerve, the substance in the joints and muscles are often the instigators of pain.

Nerve cells have the potential to become injured or inflamed in a number of ways. In one case, when traveling through the pelvic bone. In fact, this is often one of the main reasons for back pain. For, when the cluneal nerves near the rear of the pelvic area, just above the muscles at the waistline are injured or inflammed, individuals can often experience extreme pain in the lower back and lumbar region.

While PIT can be used for pain in many different areas of the body, back pain is the most common. When used for lumbar or lower back pain, a health care provider injects dextrose into the trigger point near the lower back which activates the nerve cell. After which, the nerve cell receptor allows the door to open, thus restoring the cell to normal function resulting in a decrease and eventually, elimination of pain.
